Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the city.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team knows exactly where to head next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could help the team enter places they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Questers and Schemers parties.

Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on next week.
