2K Recruits Apex Legends Lead to Revitalize Challenged Action Game Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the anticipated over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Change Comes After Lukewarm Feedback

Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster early showing last autumn.

Recently, 2K president a key figure informed team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had revealed the need for a clearer vision.

The president noted that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to satisfy community desires.

Trend of Strategic Recruitment

This announcement follows a similar step taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.

Below is the full text from Ismailer's announcement:

Team—

I understand you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Last time I shared you all a message, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented designers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to continue.”

Given your hard work and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It affirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It uncovered the need for a more distinct identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the criticism to heart and revamped the title with a renewed direction - one that’s poised to deliver on its promise to our players.

The belief in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of 31st Union. After several months of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on next week.

His leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having spent the last 15 years producing and overseeing some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in welcoming Ben soon. We are all looking forward to continue observing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the months to follow.
